Introduction
Not to be confused with his older namesake, Ted Butler is an Independent Analyst who writes at the intersection of macroeconomics, geopolitics, and commodities, with a special emphasis on precious metals.
Ted's career inadvertently began with his withdrawal from his master's in finance degree - a decision he made after becoming disillusioned with the incomprehensive assumptions made in the university's teaching methods.
Free to conduct his own unrestricted research, Ted began to pursue the truth behind the financial system, which quickly led to his recognition of sound money - gold and silver - as a necessary antidote to the chaos plaguing our monetary system today.
The strength of Ted's conviction guided him towards David Morgan - who hired Ted as a writer for his monthly publication: The Morgan Report - and subsequently Ronald Stöferle, who employed Ted as a writer for his and Mark J. Valek's annual publication: the In Gold We Trust Report.
Whilst maintaining these commitments, which now extend to writing about commodities more broadly for The Prospector News Magazine, Ted maintains an openness to new opportunities in the mining industry, especially if it concerns precious metals.

Unified by our belief that the current monetary system is broken, I started writing for David in March 2023, and have contributed to TMR every month since then. My articles have broached macro topics such as dedollarisation, as well as geopolitical phenomena such as the rise of the BRICS. However, they have also included supply-demand analyses for platinum & palladium, as well as coverage of BlackRock's foray into Bitcoin.

In Gold We Trust Report

Often referred to by industry experts as the "gold standard in gold research", the In Gold We Trust report – authored by Ronald-Peter Stöferle and Mark J. Valek - provides a holistic assessment of the gold sector and the most important factors influencing it, including real interest rates, opportunity costs, debt, central bank policy etc.
In the 2023 edition of the report, I was responsible for writing the chapter titled "Silver's Time to Shine?”. This covered the supply-demand picture of silver, as it relates to gold, and begins on page 267. Moreover, I wrote the chapter titled “Capex Comeback: A Raging Bull Market for Commodities Beckons”. Starting on page 349, this made the case for the Commodities Supercycle being imminent.

As for the 2024 edition, which is due to be published in May, I am already in the process of working on two chapters again. The first will concern the practices of deep-sea mining and asteroid mining, namely, how close they are to feasibility, and whether the gold price is implicated. The second will be a re-assessment of the silver supply-demand dynamics, so as to determine the price for 2024/25.

Founded in 1980 by Michael Fox, The Prospector News is a multimedia company that is designed to assist resource companies in telling their stories. As part of this, news and commentary about the junior resource sector is released daily, with a downloadable copy of the Prospector News Magazine published every 2 months.

Since June, I have been contributing articles to the Prospector News Magazine. So far, I have specialized in writing articles that are geopolitical in nature. For example, one article covered the trend of resource nationalism sweeping across Latin America, whilst another highlighted the resource wars occurring between the BRICS and the West in Africa’s Sahel region.
​
More recently, I wrote about the EV manufacturing market and the EV battery production market, where China commands a monopoly, and is likely to for the foreseeable future. Incidentally, Mike Fox and I discussed this topic during a recent podcast that we recorded in London.
